Nancy grew up near Cleveland, Ohio and earned her RN degree at the Cleveland School of Nursing. As a young nurse, Nancy loved working in labor and delivery. She worked in hospitals in Ohio and Maryland until her IBM family was transferred to Apex, NC. There she worked for a local physician, James Telfer, eventually moving on to the Western Wake Hospital in Apex and then Cary. She finished her career as the Assistant Director of Nursing at Glenaire in Cary. Even after her retirement, Nancy continued caring for others as a Stephen Minister.
After working tirelessly over many years, at 56 years old, Nancy obtained her BSN degree from the University of North Carolina. Her family was so proud of her.
Nancy met Dave Davis while working at Glenaire. They married in 2001 and spent 22 happy years together. Her family loved to gather at her house for events and, as grandchildren grew in age and number, the gatherings got larger. All were welcome, even if a garage needed to become a dining room to make space. Nancy’s gift of hospitality was appreciated by all. She was a true family matriarch who loved having her family around her.
Nancy spent her mornings walking around Apex Lake talking to everyone she passed. She was very active at Christ The King Lutheran Church, enjoying many activities with her friends including Esther Circle and Wisdom Club. She was a frequent participant in activities at the Cary Senior Center including line dancing, exercising, day trips, and most recently Bunco. Nancy always made deep, lasting friendships and her friends brought her great joy. She joined her nursing school classmates for frequent reunions across the country and regularly had lunches and outings with her local Western Wake and Glenaire friends. She loved traveling, and has seen much of the world including trips to Hawaii, Alaska, the Caribbean and most of Europe. She especially enjoyed a trip with her niece, Jane Yates, to Slovenia to visit her mother's hometown.
Nancy suffered a hemorrhagic stroke a week before her death. She was continually surrounded by family and friends during a challenging hospital stay. At her death, she joins her mother and father, Frank and Mary Alesnik, and her sisters, Rose Grazak and Millie Conklin.
Nancy is survived by her caring husband Dave Davis and her loving daughters, Lynn Wilhelm, Janet Kimberly, and Melinda Gray; her adoring grandchildren, Heather Kaminskas and her husband Doug, Sabrina Schultz, Mallory Schultz, Joshua Gray, Nathan Gray, Corrie Gray, Rylee Gray, and Aiden Wilhelm. Nancy recently met her newborn twin great grandsons, Tripp and Rhett Kaminskas. Nancy is also survived by her step-children Mike Davis and his wife, Max; Bonnie Sluder and her husband Tony; Cliff Davis and his wife Beth and their children and grandchildren. Her extended family included Scott and Annette Whited and their daughter Jane; her niece Rachel Fleming, her niece Jane Yates and her husband Don and their children and grandchildren; and her nephew Gary Grazak.
