Miller Armstead Gatlin

He was born on November 3, 1933 to Clarence and Ethel Gatlin of Craven County. He joined the Navy on December 15, 1951 and served in the Korean War aboard the USS Erben as an engineer. After the war he returned home where he met and married the love of his life Jo Ann Casey Gatlin. They were married 63 years and had one daughter, Lisa Diane Gatlin.

Miller worked as chief engineer his entire life for companies such as Cherry Point, Burroughs Wellcome and the North Carolina Marriott Hotels of the Eastern Coast. After retiring he worked for Walmart until the young age of 85 until his health declined.

Miller is preceded in death by his wife Jo Ann, daughter Lisa, parents Clarence and Ethel Gatlin, his brothers Matthew (twin), brothers Otis, Leonard, Steve, Curtis, Allen, Mack. Sisters Margaret Gatlin Abernathy and Lillie Mae Hearren.

He is survived by one brother Ray Gatlin (Pat) and his niece/sweetheart Rhonda Whealton (Tim) as well as many other nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Miller will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 Southeast Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511. A graveside service will occur on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Greenleaf Memorial Cemetery, 900 River Road, New Bern, NC 28562.
