John Marcus Smith Jr.

He was born March 5, 1949 in Wilmington, NC to John Marcus, Sr. and Doris Ballantine Elkins Smith.

Mr. Smith was a United States Marine Corps veteran who served in the Vietnam War.

He was an independent business owner of Contract Claims and Johnny’s Oyster Bar. Johnny was known as a selfless, humble, caring and generous person who loved his family and was a devoted son and father.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Marcus Smith, Sr.

He is survived by his daughter, Jayci Smith and her mother, Cindy Smith both of Tarboro; his mother Doris E. Smith of Raleigh (formerly of Cary); two sisters, Cathy (Jerry) Stevenson of Raleigh and Carolyn (George) White of Durham; nieces, Christina (Scott) Thompson and Serena White; nephew, Andrew Stevenson; and numerous extended family and close friends.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. Visitation will follow the service at the funeral home.
