John Richard Goodwin

Mr. Goodwin was born on March 12, 1936 in Covington, Tenn., to Thomas B. and LaFon Allgood Goodwin and grew up in Memphis, Tenn. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and was a CPA.

The Goodwins lived in Hickory, N.C., from 1965 until 1983. They moved to Louisburg, N.C., for 5 years and finally settled in Cary in 1989. After retiring, they became active in the Cary Senior Center and were members of several bridge clubs.

Mr. Goodwin is survived by his wife Jo; one son, Paul Goodwin (Angela); and two daughters, Jennifer Goodwin Miller (Edward) of Augusta, Ga., and Jan Goodwin Muscarella (Michael) of Richmond, Va.; 5 grandsons, John (Brittany) and Scott Goodwin, Ben and Zack Miller, and Matt Muscarella, and one granddaughter Allison Muscarella; and his beloved dog, George. He also is survived by one brother, Dan Goodwin (Nancy) of Cordova, Tenn. He is preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to thank the staff at Elmcroft Assisted Living, Sunrise Assisted Living, and Glenaire Retirement Community for their care and concern. Special thanks to the staff of Hospice of Wake County for their excellent care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorials be made to Hospice of Wake County.

Services for Mr. Goodwin will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. The family will meet with friends at the home of Paul Goodwin following the service.
