Jessie (Peggy) Walker Branch

Mrs. Branch was born in Stedman, NC to the late Jesse J. Walker and Minnie Averitt Walker. She attended Wake Forest University and studied music at Meredith College. Mrs. Branch was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Douglas M. Branch, Sr., who was General Director and Secretary of the NC State Baptist Convention. She was an instrumental part of her husband’s ministry and later served others through her assistance with families at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. Mrs. Branch served on the Board of Directors for Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest and was a founding charter member and first ordained woman deacon in 1969 of Greenwood Forest Baptist Church in Cary, NC, where she continued to provide leadership for the church.

Mrs. Branch is survived by her son, Douglas M. Branch, Jr. and his wife, Laura of Littleton, NC; daughters, Minnie Frances Branch of Asheville, NC and the Cayman Islands; and Jessica Diana Branch of Jonesboro, TN; 9 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27612.
