He was born July 6, 1938, the only child of Robert H. Farmer and Kathryn H. Farmer, in Lebanon, Virginia.
Jack graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, now known as Virginia Tech, with a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1960 and from University of Florida with a ME in Environmental Engineering in 1966. He worked one year with the Virginia State Health Department. After thirty years as a commissioned officer in the US Public Health Service, on assignment to the US EPA, he retired as Director of the Emission Standards and Engineering Division. The following thirteen years he worked at the Research Triangle Institute and retired there as Director of Center of Engineering and Environmental Technology. He also served in many leadership positions in White Plains United Methodist Church.
Jack married Kay Ramsey July 13, 1963. They have two sons, Mark (Laura) and Andy, as well as four grandchildren, Brayden, Kyla, Andrew and Dean.
Jack's memorial service will be held October 22, 2022 at 2 PM at White Plains UMC and afterwards a reception at Glenaire.
