Gabriel Luke Mayer was just 18 years old when he left this world. He had so much life left to be lived and could have been anything or done anything his heart desired. What a tragic loss of such a young, handsome man with a cherished sense of humor.
He is preceded in death by his father, Matt Mayer. He is survived by his grandparents Ed and Marilyn Mayer; his uncle Mark Mayer (“the cool one”) and wife Amy, his cousins Katie and Abbey; his “favorite” aunt Laura Mayer Green and her husband Rob. And, let’s not forget his faithful dogs Squeaks and Sully.
Luke had a passion for photography, spending time with friends, skateboarding, playing video games, listening to his I-Tunes, snap chatting, boating, fishing, and cooking. He also loved spending time at the beach. As long as he had the wind in his hair and the sun shining down on his face he was content.
He will be missed by so many…his family; countless friends; his teachers; and let’s not forget Laura and Rob the two people who opened their home and their hearts to him when Matt passed away. They made their home his home and they were there for him when he was truly lost and needed love and family the most.
“Luke, as we said just two short years ago when we had to say good-bye to your dad, you will be missed but you will never be forgotten!” We take solace in knowing that you are no longer struggling, no longer in pain, and no longer lost. Instead, we know that you are now at peace, catching up with your dad…planning a fishing trip on the open sea to catch some Cobia so you can do what you both took joy in and whip up a feast together.
Until we see you again, we will remember and hold dear your smile, your charm, your big beautiful blue eyes, and of course those long gorgeous eyelashes. May you rest in peace and may time heal our heavy hearts.
A memorial service will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary, N.C. on Friday August 5, 2016 at 1:00pm. The family will receive friends following the service.
