He is survived by his wife, Mary Katherine “Kat” Pippin; son, Jeffrey J. Pippin and wife, Sue; grandson, Scott Griffin and wife, Genea, and their daughters, Daisy, Christal, and Candace; and grandson, Travis Nobles and wife, Tracey, and their daughter, Mikayla. He was preceded in death by his son, Graylon, and several brothers.
Fred was born September 8, 1926 to Lucille and Allen Pippin. He served in the US Navy from 1944 through 1946 in WWII and was stationed in Oahu, Hawaii. Fred got his AB Degree at Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College). He went on to East Carolina Teachers College (now Eastern Carolina University) and received his Masters Degree.
Fred taught High School for 2 years at Richlands, NC, then became Principal for eleven years in Jones County. The family then moved to Cary where Fred worked for 24 years with the Stated Board of Education retiring in 1985. He had also coached Pee Wee Basketball for 25 years for the Cary Parks and Recreation Department. He taught Sunday School Class for 15 years and sang in the White Plains Choir from its beginning.
He and Kat loved traveling in their RV and traveled to all 50 states over their long retirement. He also loved fishing, golf gardening and their beach home at Cedar Island. One goal Fred wanted so much to reach was he and Kat’s 70th Wedding Anniversary which would have been September 4th.
A celebration of life service will be held 1:00pm Saturday, June 30 at White Plains United Methodist Church. A reception will immediately follow.
