In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Kornegay; son, Alton Kornegay, Jr.; brother, Lacy McGhee of Richmond, KY; and sister, Polly Doyle of Indianapolis, IN.
Mrs. Kornegay worked with their business, Kornegay Septic Tank Works since 1965.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Clifford and husband, John of DeLand, FL; grandson, Alston Kornegay; and granddaughter, Lily Kornegay.
Mrs. Kornegay enjoyed calling her friends and checking on the sick, and she was a member of South Hills Baptist Church for over 50 years. She cherished her many friendships, starting with the longest: Doris Rich, Annie Laurie Hodges, Charlotte McGhee, Thelma Castleberry, Mary Franklin, Ruby Hardison, Marie and E. A. Tutor, Betty Lou and Larry Stone, Patti and Bill Thomas, Hazel Wood, Fay Johnson, Carol Clifton, Jeanette Creech, Peggy and Denis Ward, Viola Campbell, Mary and John Marsh, Roxanne Carter, Loren Hall, Ginny Griffin, Monte Maney, Wendy Lancaster, and also her caregiver, Marie Denton. Mrs. Kornegay greatly appreciated long-time employee and friend, Joe Dixon.
A funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Brian Lowman at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at the funeral home.
