

He was a native of Fairmont, NC and a graduate of Fairmont High School and Wake Forest College. While at Wake Forest, he was president of the Delta Nu Chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Edwin also attended NCSU and was a Professional Engineer and a Ground–Water Hydrologist with the US Geological Survey where he made ground-water studies throughout the state and located and evaluated the well field for the City of New Bern from 1962 until 1965.
After that, he managed the Cary office for the engineering firm of Moore-Gardner & Associates for ten years before joining the State Construction Office as Assistant Director for Construction Administration and later as a design engineer for the Consulting Services Section.
Following his retirement in 1996, he was in private practice as a Consulting Engineer and was active in restoring and upgrading the six 4-H camps in NC. He was an Eagle Scout and a private pilot.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Marjorie Stowe Floyd; parents, F. Wayland Floyd and Meddie Thompson Floyd; brother, Robert F. Floyd.
Survivors include a son, David W. Floyd of Cary; daughter, Nancy F. Long and her husband, Greg of Cary; two wonderful grandsons, Evan Long of Cary, Eric Long and his wife Emily of Concord; four nephews, two nieces and a host of great nieces and nephews of whom he was very proud.
Graveside services will be held at the Rolesville Baptist Church Cemetery.
