Dwain was born in Lincoln, Nebraska to the late Welton and Loretta Warne. He was raised in Tacoma and Gig Harbor, Washington where he enjoyed living on the water.
Dwain served in the United States Army from July 1956 to July 1958. Following his service, he remained in the Washington, DC and nearby Maryland area where he met his wife. They moved to San Francisco, California in 1962, returned to Maryland for 30 years and retired to Cary, NC in 1998.
Dwain retired in 1996 from the General Services Administration in Washington, DC following a 46-year career of federal service as a mechanical engineer. He was an avid reader, loved his crossword puzzles, was a great father, served the church in many ways, including bible study leader, and was always generous to those in need. Dwain was preceded in death by his sister, Loretta Warne Murphree.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Maryanne White Warne of Cary, NC; daughters, Lynn Warne Guimaraes and her husband, Vasco of Charlotte, NC, Jennifer Warne Chapman and her husband, Joe of Dayton, OH; and grandchildren, Alex and Kate Chapman of Dayton, OH.
A memorial service will be held on November 9, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Advent Lutheran Church, 230 Erwin Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27514. A reception will be held in the church Fellowship Hall following the service, to which all are invited.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Advent Lutheran Church for the Dwain Warne Memorial Fund. The fund will be used for Hurricane Florence relief in Lumberton, NC an area of the state that has been decimated by two consecutive major hurricanes.
