David was born June 1, 1939 to the late Frederick and Rosa Huffman in Burlington, NC, where he was the youngest of seven children. He loved the outdoors where you would often find him gardening, hunting, fishing and even golfing from time to time. David was known for his wide variety of items he collected like rocks, sticks, sea shells and beach glass because he saw beauty in all of them. Some of these items were collected from the Holy Land in Israel and Palestine. Others were gathered from places as far as Alaska, Montana, the Florida Keys, Bahamas and many places in NC. To say that he loved NC State is an understatement. David served five years as the Assistant Director of Alumni Affairs at NC State University as well as being assistant director of the Wolfpack Club for nine years. He was also a Student Assistant in Sports Information which he thoroughly enjoyed. He was accomplished in many things including being the former Youngman of the Year in Cary, NC, Paul Harris Fellow with the Cary-Kildaire Rotary Club and a Master Mason at the Cary Lodge 198. David was well known for many different hobbies and accomplishments but being a husband and father ranks above all.
In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his siblings; Mary Edna Welch, Daniel W. Huffman, Walter F. Huffman Jr., James A. Huffman, Dora Roslyn "Chick" Troxler and Nell Ruth "Biddy" Heater.
