He was the cherished youngest brother of sisters Dr. Molly Mathew, late Grace Lukose, Sheela George, Mercy Jacob, and Remani Varghese.
Chacko attended Lawrence School (Lovedale) in Ootty, Tamil Nadu, India from early elementary through high school where he made many lifelong friends with whom he maintained very close ties until the very end. He then completed his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at Union Christian College in Alwaye, Kerala, India.
Chacko immigrated to the United States in 1968 where he received his post-graduate degree in Biochemistry from Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois.
He then married Dr. Kumari Verghese (nee Daniel) in Kerala, India in 1972. They lived in Detroit, Michigan for 7 years and then settled in North Carolina in 1980 along with their two children, Tikku Jacob and Tisha Sarah. In 2007, he welcomed Anupam Dinesh Shah as his son-in-law and over the next few years he became the proud grandfather of his three grandchildren, Arjun Daniel, Krish Jacob, and Ava Elizabeth.
He worked as a biochemist and research scientist at Burroughs Wellcome in RTP (Durham, NC) until his retirement in 1995. Chacko then pursued entrepreneurship and was active in the community, especially in furthering the political representation of the Indian-American community in the U.S. He was very charismatic, lived life to the fullest, and was a beloved friend to many. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 221 Union Street, Cary, NC 27511. The funeral will follow at 11:00 AM at the church. A reception for fellowship and celebration of life will follow immediately after the service at the Rev. George Adamik Parish Hall of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
