Son of the late Ernest and Ida Ayscue, Bruce was born on a hot, August summer day in Gold Sand, NC into a loving farming family. Ironically, he never enjoyed hot weather and preferred washing dishes to mowing the lawn.
A lifetime student of learning, Bruce graduated from Campbell University, Wake Forest University and earned a Masters in Teaching from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He taught high school English for several years in Winston-Salem, NC before moving onto a long, successful sales career in the Textbook Industry.
Sharing his deep Christian faith and love through spoken word was truly his calling. For seven years, he enjoyed teaching the Joy class at First Baptist Church Snellville (GA). He also loved being a member of the Men of Praise Choral Group, which provided him the opportunity to sing in churches throughout Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama.
Bruce was a kind and loving man who enjoyed wearing a nice suit and tie, having a cup of black coffee with a McDonald’s cheeseburger, completing crossword puzzles in pen and watching his beloved Wake Forest Demon Deacons and Atlantic Braves on TV. His ever-present smile and laughter showed everyone his love for life.
In addition to his parents, Bruce is predeceased by his wife Ethel, sisters Minnie, Mabel, Doris, and Bertie Gray, and brother Frank. He is survived by his loving daughters Allison (Carey) and Ashley, sister Joyce, and Ethel’s children Laura (Johnny), John (Janella), Syd (Ray) and Carolyn (Robert). He will be remembered as Uncle Bruce to his many nieces and nephews.
The family will be forever grateful to the many wonderful caregivers who blessed Bruce’s life over the last few years. Along with the team at Transitions LifeCare, your support allowed him to battle Parkinson’s disease with grace and dignity.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3pm on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511, with Rev. Mandy Jones officiating. Family and friends are invited to come to the family residence afterwards to reminisce and share fond memories.
