Anne Helen (Richard) Carret died November 8, 2013, in Cary North Carolina, after a protracted illness. Anne was born February 9, 1928 in Waltham, Massachusetts. She married Donald Carret on December 2, 1950, in Belmont, Massachusetts, and had 3 children Donna Carret Ellwanger, Andrea Frances Carret and Frederick Philip Carret from that union.
She obtained Bachelor of Arts degree in Romance Languages from Radcliffe College. She was the longtime Personal Office Assistant to Philip L. Carret, her father-in-law and president of Carret and Company, Inc. in New York City. She was an avid reader of mysteries, historical fiction, history, and French literature all of her life and enjoyed golf, curling and numerous volunteer activities both at her church and in the community. She was a member of the DAR, Shattemuc Yacht Club, and The St. Andrew’s Golf Club. Before moving to Cary, she lived in Belmont, Massachusetts; Dobbs Ferry, New York; and Pleasantville, New York.
She was preceded in death by daughter Andrea Frances Carret of Glen Rock, New Jersey; parents, A. Frederick and Helen (Chase) Richard of Belmont, Massachusetts; brother Pierre Richard of Fairfax, Virginia; and sister, Constance Helen Streeter of Rothesay, New Brunswick, Canada. Survived by ex-husband, Donald Carret of Cary, North Carolina, with whom she shared 27 years of marriage followed by 36 years of friendship; daughter, Donna Carret Ellwanger (George A. Ellwanger, Jr.) of Cary, North Carolina; son, Frederick Philip Carret (Mélissa Caron) of Larchmont, New York, and lately of Barcelona, Spain; son-in-law, Kevin Gately of Fair Lawn, New Jersey; stepmother Irene Richard of Lexington, Massachusetts; brother, David Richard (Dottie Richard) of Harvard, Massachusetts. Surviving brother-in-law and sisters-in-law are James Streeter of Rothesay, New Brunswick, Canada, Sarah Richard of Fairfax, Virginia, and Anne Richard of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a wake on Friday, November 15 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm and a Funeral Divine Liturgy on Saturday, November 16 at 5pm, at Saints Cyril and Methodius Byzantine Catholic Church 2510 Piney Plains Rd, Cary, North Carolina 27511. Rev. Fr. Richard P. Rohrer will officiate at both events. She will be buried on November 23 at Mount Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mount Auburn St., Cambridge, MA 02138 after a graveside service at 2pm.
The family is very grateful to Fr. Richard P. Rohrer for all that he did for them during this very difficult time. In addition the family extends sincere thanks to Perpetual Home Care staff, as well as 3HC staff and physicians for the care rendered to Anne. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being set up in her name.
