Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Grady Elmer Hufstetler. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Smith; step daughter, JoEllen (Rusty) Ruhling; step sons, Keith (Myra) Hufstetler, Neal (Vicki) Hufstetler; step grandchildren, Abbey (Matt) Tillman, Brock (Haley) Hufstetler, Brittany Hufstetler, Deidra Pope, Christy (Jason) Lingerfelt; six step great grandchildren and two step great great grandchildren. She also leaves several cousins; step nieces and step nephews.
Ruth graduated in 1953 from Cartersville High School. She played basketball and was the secretary of her class in 1953. She was so proud that her father Bill Leachman owned the first Texaco Gas Station in Cartersville. After High School her first job was at Spring City as a switch board operator. After that Ruth worked over 30 years for the State of Georgia DOT as a dispatcher and secretary and was the clerk and Sunday school teacher and a lifelong member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Ruth always had to be dressed to the tee when she left the house. She was loving and a wonderful caregiver to her husband. She had a love for all her little dogs and cats. Ruth loved her family, friends and her church. She even kept a book with everyone’s birthdays and special occasions in it and would send them a card to let them know how much she cared.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 13, 2022 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Don Startup officiating. The interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 13, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ruth’s memory to Tabernacle Baptist Church 112 East Church St., Cartersville, GA 30120.
