Goff was born on October 3rd, 1958 to Joseph Aaron and Margaret McMahon of East Ridge, Tennessee. Goff’s life was full of music, sports, friends, family, and sharing joy in Christ.
Growing up, Goff was an avid baseball and football player and played on his church softball team well after his childhood. His love of sports was limitless, and you could count on him always watching a game, whether it was Tennessee athletics or his own children’s activities. Anything from cheerleading events, football games, and music performances, he was his kid’s number one fan in everything they did. He also was an avid fisherman but loved the friendships it fostered even more.
Goff majored in communications while attending the University of Tennessee and put his degree to use every day in his career as a food salesman. He was personable and had relationships lasting years with his clients because of how caring and genuine he was to those he met. Goff would talk to anyone and everyone and always made them feel like he really cared about what they had to say. His friends and family can all attest to his knack for cracking a well timed joke exactly when you needed a smile.
Goff’s love for music started with him growing up listening to Lynard Skynard and The Beach Boys and then learned how to play it himself on guitar and drums. He was also an avid singer as a bass in his church choir for many years. Goff’s hobbies were limitless and he had a true zest for trying new things in life including everything from photography, painting, building aircraft models, and cooking the best brisket around.
Goff is loved and survived by his wife Kelly, brother Rusty, daughter Sarah (Keenan), son Hayden (Amy), and four beautiful grandchildren: Emily Anne, Caleb, John Marvin, and Mabel.
There will be a celebration of life on August 3rd, 2024 at 11 am at Trinity United Methodist Church in Cartersville, Georgia. Visitation will be from 9-11 prior to the service. As Goff prioritized finding joy in life and sharing it with others, the family asks that you do the same: go out and do something that brings you real joy and share it with your loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in his honor to the Backpack Buddies, an assistance program through Trinity United Methodist Church that helps supply local elementary school children with necessary materials. Donations can be made by check to Trinity United Methodist Church marked for “Backpack Buddies.”
