Mary Yvonne Stewart Stoner passed away after a long and courageous battle with stage 4-colon cancer on October 31, 2017 at her home of over 52 years. She is now whole again and at peace with the love of her life.
Mary was born in Mobile, Alabama to the late Clarence Joseph Stewart and Thelma Yvonne Allan Stewart on April 14, 1944. Mary grew up in and around Mobile, Alabama until her teenage years when her family moved to the Smyrna area of Georgia where she graduated from Campbell High School in 1962, she then proceeded to work in downtown Atlanta. On March 19, 1964 she met the love of her life that she would share an eventful and amazing 49 years with, the late Roy G. Stoner. Soon after they met Roy purchased the old family farm in Adairsville, GA where they continued to enjoy farm living for almost 50 years together. Unto this union two daughters were born, Mary Frances Stoner on January 10, 1967 and Sallie Stoner (-Twyford) on October 8, 1977. On November 29, 1979 tragedy struck when their beloved older daughter, Mary, was taken from this world far too soon. Even in this insurmountable tragedy their marriage stayed strong with their faith in God and his mercies when many would have given up and failed at marriage. Mary was a member of the local homemakers association for many years even being awarded several awards at State conferences for her seamstress and volunteer work in the local community. Over the years Mary was a Girl Scout leader for her daughters scout troops and loved helping young women learn how to make it in today’s world via learning sewing, crafting, life skills, and love of community. Mary was a talented seamstress designing her daughters clothing for much of their youth as well as designing, sewing, and altering many formal gowns and wedding dresses for brides over the years. Mary was a talented artist in many mediums such a charcoal, acrylic, and other forms of drawing and painting. Mary loved to travel and was able to take many cruises and trips to Hawaii, across the US, Mexico, and the Bahamas. Mary retired from Shaw Industries after many loyal years of service. Mary was of the Pentecostal faith.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Joseph Stewart and Thelma Yvonne Allen Stewart, her sister Linda Kay Stewart, her husband Roy Garner Stoner, and her daughter Mary Frances Stoner.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Sallie Stoner-Twyford, husband Master Sgt Larry Twyford, Sr. (USMC), grandsons: Larry Twyford, Jr (LJ), Garner Bailey Twyford (GB), and unborn granddaughter, River Abagail Rebekah Madison Twyford, all of Jacksonville, NC.
