Mr. Marion N. Smith, Sr., 103, of Taylorsville, GA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 12, 2020. Marion was born on March 09, 1916 in Cartersville, GA to the late Mr. Clyde N. Smith and Mrs. May Elizabeth Hughes Smith.
Marion was a hard worker and served proudly in the Army Medical Corps during World War II. He served as a surgical nurse in Cleveland, OH. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked as a carpenter and became a contractor, building numerous commercial projects and custom homes in Bartow County. Marion also raised cattle, hogs, grew a garden, and was an avid outdoorsman, who also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and his wife loved entertaining friends and family at their home in Cassville. He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Cartersville, serving as an elder for many years. Marion will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Marion is preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Lona Mae Rutland Smith, parents, son, Marion N. Smith, Jr., siblings; Edna Louise Smith, William Dixon Smith, Eugene Smith, and grandson, James M. Bell.
He is survived by his children; William Clyde (Elizabeth) Smith, Dennis C. Smith, Bridget Lee (Mike) Bell, grandchildren; Carla Rezac, Lori Smith, Blake Smith, Beth S. Mercer, David Bell, Stephanie B. Kleimann. Nine great grandchildren also survive to cherish Marion's memory.
A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Sunset Memory Gardens at two o'clock in the afternoon with a Celebration of Life Service to follow the interment at First Presbyterian Church, Cartersville at three o'clock in the afternoon.
The family will receive friends at Owen Funeral Home on Thursday, February 13, 2020 from four o'clock in the afternoon until six.
