Mr. James Melvin Slater

Mr. Slater was born January 13, 1945 in Atlanta, Georgia, son of the late James Melvin Slater, Sr. and Dorothy Parham Slater. He was retired from Ford Motor Company and was a member of Church of God of Prophecy.

Survivors include his wife; Mildred Joyce Cochran Slater; children; Bryan Fortner, Renae Macke, Sandra Fortner, Brad Fortner, Horace Cochran, Burton James Fortner, Scott Seay, David Seay and Mark Slater; 18 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a sister; Janet & Dan Dennison; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon July 17th at 1:00 P.M. at the Church of God of Prophecy with Pastor Dewey Lolly officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Owen Funeral Home.

The sons of Mr. Slater will serve as pallbearers.
