James is preceded in death by his parents, George and Bonnie Martin, his brother Gerald Martin, sisters Glennis Ann Davis and Lavinia Massey. He is survived by his wife, Gail Woodard Martin, sister-in-law Betty Pearce, and several nieces and nephews and their families.
James (Jim) was a graduate of John Marshall Law School and spent most of his career as a Special Agent for the FBI. He took his responsibilities seriously and was proud of his tenure as an FBI agent. After retiring from the FBI, Jim continued in law enforcement as a National Park Ranger in Tennessee and Georgia.
Jim was a Christian and a strong role model and loving family member and friend. Jim was a deacon at Bethel Baptist Church in Smyrna, Georgia for several years. He loved all people and showed that love by counseling and helping those he met in his official capacity in law enforcement and those he met in passing throughout his life. He loved animals and had a special place in his heart for rescuing and loving cats.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 1, 2023, in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Jacobs officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
