I only met Ian one time, when the guys were moving in to Salley Hall. He was so polite and jumped right in to help my son with moving in. I know that Ian became close friends with Max, my son’s roommate last year. I’m glad that Ian had good friends at FSU and had good times- even though his time in this world was cut short. My heartfelt prayers and thoughts are with the family and friends of Ian. From an FSU parent.

Ian and I would hit the gym together during our freshman year. We were suitemates in Salley dorm and had some crazy adventures. I would always bug him to drink water during our workouts but he'd always say he didn't need it. Eventually, he'd give a little and take the tiniest sip from the water fountain you'd ever seen. He always made me do an extra rep or two and pushed me to my limits...

Just read about his passing today, it shocked me to my core. Ian was a great man who worked hard in school and was looking to go above and beyond in college. It is very sad to hear of his passing. Love and mercy, God bless him and his family!

Its sad to hear of Ian passing, he was such a joy to be around and constantly showed what a true leader was he never let us down, sadly his life was cut short, our hearts go out to your family in this time of sorrow and grief. he was a beloved brother, son, and overall just a  great kid to be around as we say our goodbyes may god be with your family remember God is with your family. he  will definitely be missed by many in our community i miss him already.

Ian was really close to my brother. and even over the last year and a half him and i would talk which gave us a closer friendship. this news tears alot of us apart. i will be praying for ian’s family, and everyone who knew and loved him. he had such a heart of gold. he was sooo funny, and he just had the ability to make anyone feel better just by being in the room. everyone who knew him absolutely adored him. there’s so much i could say about him, but unfortunately these boxes aren’t that big. Fly high ian. you will be missed 🕊️

I am so sorry to hear the news of Ian’s passing. He was a fantastic swim teacher to our three little boys this summer, and a wonderful person. We are so sorry for your loss.

My son Max and Ian were roommates at FSU. Ian was a very selfless, kind, fun, loyal, dependable friend who will be missed beyond measure. He was like a brother to Max. We are so very sorry for your loss. Your family will be in our prayers during this difficult time.

I have so many memories of Ian from the years I've known him and been friends with him, however there is one that I have always held really close to me. It was senior year of high school during homecoming week and I had been having a bad day and decided to go to the movie night on the field and was sitting by myself. Ian saw me sitting alone and he decided to come and join me and sat with me throughout the movie. I feel that this memory is a testament to his friendship and how he was always willing to be there for others. When Ian loved, he loved BIG. I will always be grateful to have known him and I feel so lucky that I had the honor of being his friend. You'll be missed big time buddy <3

It goes without saying that Ian was important to so many people—his family, his friends, his classmates, his teachers, his community—and it is impossible to believe that he is gone. The space left by his loss will not and cannot be filled, and we know that those who loved him will continue to remember him as a good, loyal friend, one quick to laugh and share his opinions and show up for those who needed him even when he was miles away. 

A poem I read last night by Maya Angelou talked about loss and how we can be reminded, even in the face of the pain, that we are made better and can continue to be made better because the people we have loved existed.

We are grateful to have known Ian and for the opportunity to be made better by him.
