Mr. Dittmer was born January 18, 1929 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a son of the late Herbert Dittmer, Sr. and Elvira Arndt Dittmer.
He was a member of the Sam Jones United Methodist Church and a retired businessman. Herb was a 45 year Cartersville resident, member of the Cartersville Country Club, and an avid golfer. In earlier years he was involved in youth sports and the boy scouts. He loved his family.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Arleda Grossen Dittmer, his children, Marilyn and Bill Huskins, of Cartersville, Thomas and Melody Dittmer, of Cartersville, Herbert and Gayle Dittmer, of Knoxville, Tennessee, Mark and Robyn Dittmer, Jeffrey and Sherry Dittmer, Todd and Michelle Dittmer and Danny and Renee Dittmer, all of Cartersville, grandchildren, Wendy and Seth Washburn, Billy Joe Huskins, Jennifer and Jason Kaset, Adam Dittmer, Brittany Dittmer and fiancé Dan Fidler, Seth Dittmer, Jill Dittmer, Elizabeth and Greg Gable, Caroline Dittmer, Trent Dittmer, Thad Dittmer, John Dittmer, Barrette Dittmer, Molly Dittmer, Ben Dittmer, and Case Dittmer, great grandchildren, Lyta, Jordan, Isabelle, Julia, Austin, Bailey, Gram, and Landon, and one great great grandchild, Lonnie. Also surviving are his sister and brother in law, Diane D. Becker, brother in law, Wallace Leonard and sister in law, Dorothy Stark.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 24, 2010 from the Chapel of the Owen Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Burch and Rev. Dee Dee Lawson officiating. Entombment will follow at the Sunset Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Adam Dittmer, Seth Dittmer, Trent Dittmer, Thad Dittmer, John Dittmer, Ben Dittmer, and Case Dittmer. Billy Joe Huskins will be an honorary pallbearer.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Boys and Girls Club, Advocates for Bartow County or Sam Jones United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 till 7:00 P.M. Friday.
