Mr. Knight was born on June 28, 1928 in Cartersville, GA, son of the late William Sydney Knight and Bessie Culver Knight.
Harvey Knight lived his entire life in Bartow County and loved his community and his friends which were numerous. He was well known in the community and was a larger than life person. Harvey was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. He loved going to his Army reunion every year.
Harvey was active in his community. He served as a founding board member of the Bartow County Boys and Girls Club and he was a longstanding member of the Cartersville Lions Club where he was awarded the Melvin B. Jones award for community service. Mr. Knight was instrumental in implementing zoning ordinances in Bartow County and served on the Bartow County Zoning Board of Appeals for several years. He was a lifelong member of Rowland Springs Baptist Church where he served for over 20 years as a Sunday school teacher and over 40 years as a deacon.
Harvey Knight lived an extraordinary life. From working for the Smithsonian Institute excavating Native American artifacts during the construction of Lake Allatoona to creating several successful recycling businesses in the late 1960’s to his hobby of restoring national award winning classic cars he lived a life with purpose and meaning. Harvey had a positive impact on everyone he met and never met a stranger. Through his hobby of classic car restoration he had friends all over the United States who shared his passion for classic cars of the 1930’s and 1940’s. Harvey loved spending time at his second home in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida where he had numerous friends. He was an avid golfer but his favorite pastimes were working on his farm or in his shop working on his cars or simply visiting with friends who would drop by regularly. He was a storyteller extraordinaire and never seemed to run out of anecdotes about his past in Bartow County. He will be missed by many.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Martha Knight Johnson.
