David L. Ballard

David L. "Radar" Ballard, 73, of Cartersville, GA passed away Thursday, June 20, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. David was born on October 20, 1945 in Cartersville, GA to the late Mr. Max Ballard and Mrs. Lois Payne Ballard.

David was a hard worker. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Afterwards he worked for over 38 years in law enforcement, serving for Bartow County Sherriff, Cartersville City Police Department and Euharlee Police Department and also worked at Auto Zone part time for many years. He was a member of the Carl Boyd Post 3 American Legion. He loved his wife, family and friends.

David is preceded in death by his parents, son, Randal Lewis Ballard, brother, Gerald "Jerry" Max Ballard and wife, Retta, and sister, Janie Will Lockridge.

He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Johnnie Gail Ballard; his sons, Russell (Tyra) Ballard and Brian (Tonya) Meadows; his daughters, Amanda Arp and Falisha Nelson, both of Cartersville, and April Turner of Conyers; his devoted brother, Everett (Jeral) Ballard of Rome, and his sister, Grace Hatfield of Cartersville; his granddaughter who he raised as his own, Savannah (Brody) White Williams and ten other loving grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of Life Service for David will be conducted at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Cartersville on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at two o'clock in the afternoon with the Rev. Ronnie Cowart officiating. A private interment will follow at a later date at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA with the Rev. Josh James officiating. Military Honors will be rendered.

The family will receive friends at the church from eleven in the morning, Saturday, June 29, 2019 until the service hour.
