Dan Henry Keever, age 72, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Highlands Senior Living Center in Cartersville, Georgia, following a series of lingering illnesses. He was born the son of Henry Alexander Keever and Nora June Dunning Keever, on August 19, 1950, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents Henry A. Keever and June Keever Hall; brother, Don Alex Keever; wife, Karen Dangler Keever; and his beloved pets Puppy Lou, Sam, and Sunny.
Dan is survived by Charlotte Camp, his companion and best friend, who has been by his side for thirty three years. He is also survived by his siblings Dixie Louise Keever, David Clifford Keever, and Dellie Kay Keever Noble; children Dan Henry Keever, Jr. and Mecca Lynn Keever Hershey; grandchildren Tyler Blake Keever, Bella Keever, and Breanna Keever, and several nieces and nephews.
Dan is a 1968 graduate of Cartersville High School, where he ran track and cross country. He was raised in Sam Jones Memorial United Methodist Church, worked in the hardware business for over twenty years, was a truck driver for ten years, and served in the food industry as a baker and chef with the Air National Guard for twenty-one years. Dan and Charlotte were team truck drivers, traveling the United States and seeing God’s beautiful country, not only as truck drivers, but also as tourists.
Dan enjoyed working puzzles, reading, fishing, and loved caring for animals. He missed his animals so much when he had to move into assisted living, that he began collecting memorabilia of dogs and cats for his room. Dan was a jokester and loved laughing and making others laugh. He was telling jokes and making his roommate laugh the night God called him home.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Highlands Senior Living, Fresnius Dialysis, his myriad of doctors and nurses, and especially Patti Headrick (who nicknamed Dan “Dan Dan, the bakery man”) for their care and compassion during the past few years of his declining health.
Dan most recently attended, and was baptized in, the Tabernacle Baptist Church, and attended as often as he could until his disability made it too difficult. He loved his Sunday school class, and tried to attend as many of their activities as possible. The family wishes to thank his friends and staff at TBC for their acts of kindness, calls, visits, cards, and prayers during the last few years of his life.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Owen Funeral Home on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 11:00 am, with the Reverend Richard Poe officiating. Please feel free to visit with each other following the service for a reception and time of fellowship.
