Cassie Genell Smith

Cassie Genell Smith, 79, of Emerson, GA passed away at Redmond Regional Medical Center on Friday, June 16, 2012. Funeral services will be held at Owen Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 19th at 2:00pm. Family will receive friends at Owen on Monday, June 18th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Graveside services will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Cartersville, GA.

Mrs. Smith was born on August 17, 1932, to the late Reverend Howard Cordell & Minnie Wilson Cordell. She had a fulfilling career as a paraprofessional at Emerson Elementary School. Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Baptist Church of Emerson.

Surviving family members include her children, Cheryl & Ray Brown of Cedartown, Janice (Michael) Smith of Emerson, Kelly (Anthony) Smith of Asheville, NC; brothers & sisters: Larry & Linda Cordell, Rovene (Charles) Cordell, Lois & Charlie Rainey, Evelyn & Ronald Garland, Kate (Jack) Grizzle, Marvin & Reba Cordell, Howard “Junior” Cordell, Velva Chandler, Patricia Harrison, Ronald & Sharon Smith, and John & Louise Rampley; Grandchildren: DJ Black & Jade Wright, Brandon & Samantha Hughes, Brittany Smith, Taylor Smith, Kristen Steel, Amanda (Smith) & Chris Jarrett, and Eric Smith; great-grandsons Mason & Aiden Hughes; a host of cousins and extended family.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, George Edward Smith, her sons Anthony & Michael Smith; brothers & sisters Charles Cordell, Jack Grizzle, Elmer Rampley, and Lillie Bell & JD Atkinson, and step-mother Lois Goss Cordell.

Services will be officiated by Pastor Mike Abernathy, Bro. Vann Chappell, and Bro. Marvin Cordell.

Pallbearers will be DJ Black, Brandon Hughes, Taylor Smith, Eric Smith, Chris Jarrett, and Donovan Shook. Honorary pallbearers include Darrell Black, Morris Bearden, Clarence Stevens, Truman McCollum, Ray Brown, Todd Cordell, and Kelly Cordell.
