Mr. Thornton was born on December 7, 1931 in Cloverdale, AL, son of the late Augusta Gracious Thornton, Sr., and Lena Lawson Thornton.
Mr. Thornton proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, where he was trained as a flight engineer. After his honorable discharge from the military he began his career with Pan Am Airways. He also worked for Wiley Laboratory, where he was a Testing Manager on Apollo space crafts. Having a keen entrepreneurial spirit, he was able to help start several companies including Equipment Resources, now known as National Cash Register, the computer hardware company, Logic Systems and Computer Cabling Company. In his spare time he enjoyed, tinkering with and restoring old cars, woodworking and bush hogging. He was always self-sufficient and was active until the very end. He was a true and faithful servant of the Lord and a proud member of Euharlee Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Christine Patricia Thornton; daughter, Brenda “Tina” Ann Thornton.
Survivors include his sons, Christopher Gordon Thornton, Sr., Ralph David (Lori Ann) Thornton and Nathan Paul (Anna Bell) Thornton; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother, Tommy Gordon Thornton.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at three o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 30th of April, 2023 at Euharlee Baptist Church with Christopher Thornton, Rev. Nathan Thornton, Rev. David Thornton and Rev. Roger Fisher officiating.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family for one hour prior to service time at the church.
Interment will be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 2nd of May, 2023 at The Georgia National Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Nathan Thornton, Jr., Jereme San Roman, Enrique Eras, Paul Gleeson, Caleb Elliot and Brad Thornton.
