Roy Edward Curran, Senior, 90, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on April 3, 2024. Roy was born in Dallas on April 6, 1933 to Mary Mosman Curran and Charles Joseph Curran. He graduated in 1950 from the Missouri Military Academy in Mexico, Missouri and three years later earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from Southern Methodist University. Roy married Melba Grace Scalf on June 27, 1953. They were married 47 years until she passed on October 19, 2000.
The Curran family owned a drapery dry cleaning business for more than 50 years at the corner of McKinney and Lemmon where Roy worked after graduation. Later he collaborated with Rutherford’s Designs creating custom draperies for their clients until he retired in 2018.
Those who knew Roy speak of his friendly nature, selfless generosity, love of a good story—especially if it was funny—and his everlasting devotion to his beloved wife Melba. He was naturally curious and loved learning which he would credit to his days at Missouri Military Academy.
Roy is survived by his daughters, Beth Curran Tipple and her husband, Darby Tipple, Rosemary Curran, Martha Curran Mehl and her husband David Ryan Mehl, Sr., Roy Edward Curran, Jr. and his wife, Helen Brown Curran. His grandchildren include Molly Chamberlin Merritt, David Ryan Mehl, Jr., Zackary Armando Montico Brown, Ciara Celeste Curran, Brian David Curran, Trent Edward Curran, Duke Jacob Curran and Connor James Wyatt Curran, great grandson, James David Merritt and great granddaughter Presley Montico-Brown.
Visitation for Roy is scheduled for Wednesday, April 10, 5:30 -7:30 pm at Rhoton Funeral Home, 1511 South I35E, Carrollton, TX 75006. Funeral Service will be Thursday, April 11, 11 am at Calvary Hill Funeral Home, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, Texas 75220.
