Mary Lou Scobey Bennett, age 82 passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 in Frisco, Texas surrounded by her family. From her birth in Little Rock, Arkansas on December 27, 1939 she was a shining light to all she touched.
She was born to John Newton Scobey and Mary Ward Axley Scobey of Arkansas and was the only girl along with three brothers. With her quick wit and commanding presence, she always kept them on their toes. She met her husband Robert “Bob” Lewis Bennett while they were both attending the University of Arkansas and they married August 13, 1960. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and she remained a Razorback for life. For 61 years, she and Bob built a life of love and happiness bringing 5 children into the world.
Mary Lou was primarily a homemaker but enjoyed being a substitute teacher and volunteering at all of her children’s schools and activities. She enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Frisco Garden Club and loved to work outside in her yard. She loved the color yellow and always had a special place in her heart for the mountains of Colorado. She had numerous collections including turtles, Wedgewood, and salt and pepper shakers. Her house was a menagerie of trinkets, family pictures, and memories.
She is preceded in death by her parents Mary and John Scobey and her brother Mark Scobey.
She is survived by her husband Bob Bennett, her siblings Jack Scobey and his wife Tasha and David Scobey and his wife Judi and her five children, Shannon Bennett and the father of her children Mark Miyasaki, Bret Bennett and his wife Therese, Brooks Bennett and his wife Venee, Suzanne Bennett, and Shelby Hopson and her husband Jake. Nana, as she was known, cherished her 10 grandchildren, Michael Miyasaki, Gabrielle Miyasaki, Madison Miyasaki, Peighton Miyasaki, RJ Bennett, Valerie Bennett, Brittany Chintala and her husband JC, Christopher Bennett, Jackson Hopson and Bailey Hopson. She was also fortunate to spoil 2 great grandchildren Jayci and Josie Chintala.
Mary Lou will always be remembered for her infectious smile and love of campfires. She loved supporting pets in need and was proud to have 4 family members in law enforcement. The family would also like to extend our gratitude to all the nurses and doctors at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Frisco who took amazing care of her in her final days. The family will be holding a private memorial service.
