Martha Settles Westbrook was born December 27, 1934 to Ralph and Martha Settles in Anniston, Alabama. She grew up in Houston, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana, graduating from C.E. Byrd High School in Shreveport. She attended LSU her freshman year and was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority.
She was then off to fly the skies as a Hostess for Braniff Airways. She loved flying and made many friends that lasted throughout her life. It was while flying with Braniff she met and married her Captain, Nolan (Dolly) Westbrook. They enjoyed 48 years of marriage until his passing in 2003.
Wherever “Bunkie” was planted, she bloomed. From living in Dallas to Forreston area to Ft. Lauderdale, Fl to Galveston, Waxahachie and ultimately Coppell, she made many friends all along the way touching many lives with her generosity and love.
She is so missed.
Martha was welcomed into heaven by her loving husband, her parents, her sweet sister Catherine Bienfang, two nephews, Donnie Westbrook and Jeff Griffin along with many Aunts, Uncles, family and friends. She passed peacefully with a smile on her face.
Martha is survived by her daughter Jane Westbrook Shafer, son-in-law Paul Shafer and grandchildren Martha, Sam, Amy and Andrew, all of Coppell; brother-in-law George (Beannie) Bienfang, nephew George, nieces Anne Bienfang and Nancy Hogan all of Dallas. Also surviving her are brother and sister-in-law Bobby and Wanda Westbrook of Waxahachie, nieces Linda Oakes of Lipan and Laurie Jeffry of Plano, sister-in-law Glenda Edwards and niece Julie Miller of Nashville, Tn.
Celebration of a life well lived will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Mary Immaculate Church in Farmers Branch, followed by a reception and then burial at Hillcrest Cemetery at 2pm in Waxahachie.
Very special thanks to all her caregivers over the last month, especially Cecilia, Joyce, Angela, Pat and all the people at Compass Hospice. Thank you sweet Emily.
