Jean Ellen Laycock Pratt of Carrollton passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, following a brief illness. She was born in McAllen, Texas on March 17, 1927. She grew up in McAllen. During World War II, Moore Field was a nearby Army Air Force training school, and Jean and her friends helped the USO located there. She graduated from SMU, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi, with a degree in Psychology. She met her husband of 63 years, Bill Pratt, at SMU. They were married February 18, 1950 in Durant, Oklahoma. In the early days of their marriage, before becoming a full-time homemaker and mother, Jean taught first grade in McAllen.
Jean was a member of The Nor'kirk Presbyterian, serving as Deacon and unofficial mother and grandmother to many.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Ilo Burkhart Laycock, by her husband Bill Pratt, and by an infant granddaughter.
She is survived by her daughters Nancy Pratt and Becky Pratt Heflin, son-in-law Darrell Heflin, grandsons Matthew Heflin and his wife Ellen Foster Heflin, Steven Heflin all of Carrollton, and Zachary Heflin and his wife Ellen Cresto Heflin of Midland, and by a great granddaughter who will arrive in January 2018.
There will be a visitation at Rhoton Funeral Home on Monday, November 6th from 6-8 pm. The Memorial Service will be Tuesday, November 7th at 2:00 pm at The Nor'kirk Presbyterian 3915 North Josey Lane, Carrollton, TX 75007. Memorial donations may be made to the Nor'kirk Presbyterian.
