Shane Adkinson, age 50, beloved son, brother, grandson, father, grandfather, nephew and cousin passed away on May 31, 2020 in Columbus, Georgia. Shane was born May 25, 1970, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of Ralph and Janice Bower Adkinson. Shane has an older brother, Ty Adkinson (Ericka), and a younger sister, Danielle Adkinson Mcspadden (Steve). He was the father of two daughters, Kristen Adkinson Duke (Bryce), and Kaitlyn Adkinson. Shane had a grandson, Axell Grey Duke, whom he adored.
Shane grew up on a horse farm in Indiana, showing Appaloosas and Quarter horses as a youth. He had an active childhood, playing little league baseball, golf, and racing BMX bicycles, but his greatest past-time was shooting. His family moved to Florida, then California, and back to the southeastern US due to his father's profession as a professional cutting horse trainer. Shane loved hunting over dogs. He enjoyed his dogs and was successful training bird dogs. Shane was an avid hunter and fisherman, but he excelled as a top competitor in sporting clay tournaments, winning many championships. He was an outstanding instructor, coaching his daughter, Kristen, to Championship honors at the National Sporting Clays tournament in San Antonio, Texas. He never missed an opportunity to instruct shooters, no matter their skill level, and they always excelled.
Shane loved his family - his mom and dad, and his brother, Ty, and sister, Danielle. He adored his grandmother, Jeanne Cardone, and was a shadow to his grandfather, Bill Cardone. As a child, Grandpa Cardone taught Shane the finer points of golf as well as card playing, specifically, UNO, and many exciting games were played at Grandma and Grandpa Cardone's home. Shane loved his cousins, Brett and Gianna Scappucci, Jimmy Bower and Leslie Bower Downs, who were constant in his life until the family moved from Indiana. Brett and Shane were 6 months apart, and many times they were mistaken for twins. They were great companions, along with Shane's big brother Ty . . . .the 3 musketeers.
Shane was a born salesman and was involved in the automotive industry for 30 years, as a salesman, manager, and corporate financial director for major dealerships. His occupation had him moving with his family to Texas and Montana and back to Georgia. He truly loved the west and the life he lived in Montana, where antelope and deer grazed in his front yard of the 10,000 acre ranch on which he and his family lived.
Shane is survived by his daughter, Kristen Adkinson Duke (Bryce) and grandson, Axell Grey Duke, Savannah, GA, daughter Amber Kaitlyn Adkinson of Ft. Worth, Texas, sister, Danielle Adkinson McSpadden (Steve) of Ellaville, GA, brother, Ty Adkinson (Ericka), of Killen, AL, mother, Janice Bower Adkinson, Americus, GA, maternal grandmother, Jeanne Cardone, Sellersburg, IN, uncle, William Bower, aunts, Judith Bower Scappucci (John), and Margery Springer, uncle, James Raymond Bower (Sheri), Sellersburg, IN, nieces and nephews, Brittany Adkinson Watkins, Kylie McSpadden Weld, Brooke Adkinson, and Brandon Adkinson; cousins, Jim Bower, Leslie Bower Downs, Gianna Scappucci, and until his recent death, Brett Raymond Scappucci and his 'brother from another mother', Chad Johnson. Shane was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Adkinson, his grandfathers, Raymond Bower and William Cardone, paternal grandparents, Olney and Lola Adkinson, aunts, Carol Bower and Mary Bower Wills, and uncle, Dr. Richard Bower.
His life was not long lived, but it was well lived. He will forever be missed by his family and multitude of friends.
