IN THE CARE OF
Leppert Mortuaries – Carmel
Norman Harris passed away peacefully on February 14, 2022. Fiercely loyal to his family and friends, he will also be remembered for his kindness, his gentle demeanor and humor, and his incredibly sharp and mechanically inclined mind.
Norm moved from Evergreen Park, IL to La Porte, IN where he lived for 74 years, and then for 6 years as resident of the Stratford Retirement Community in Carmel, IN. Norm graduated from LaPorte High School and then became a corporal in the US Army where he learned about the maintenance and mechanics of office machines. Those skills led to his 35-year career with IBM overseeing five counties in Northwest Indiana and receiving numerous service awards.
Norm and JoAnn, his wife of 50 years, raised a family and were active in the community. After his retirement in 1989, they extensively traveled and also ran JoAnn’s Antiques, a successful upscale antiques business. He also owned and operated the Harris Rubber Stamp Company, which serviced over 50 businesses around LaPorte, St. Joseph and Porter Counties. He was also a past member of the Phi Delta Kappa fraternity in LaPorte.
He is preceded in death by his wife JoAnn and is survived by his children: Carolyn (Dale) Johnson, David (Pam) Harris, and Linda (Jim) Newell; 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and his dearest friend and companion, Sylvia Foster.
A private graveside service will be held in LaPorte. Donations may be made to the American Stroke Association.
