Carolyn J. Snyder, 84, of Carmel, Indiana, departed this life on Thursday, April 11, 2024. Carolyn was born September 27, 1939 in Terre Haute, Indiana to the late Roy and Doris (Padgett) Sloan. Carolyn graduated from Indiana State University where she met her husband, Donald. She then earned her Master Degree in Education and went on to teach first, second, and fifth grades at various schools in the Martinsville Metropolitan School District in Indiana. She retired from Smith Elementary School in Martinsville in 1994 after teaching for 28 years.
Carolyn cherished her teaching career and often spoke fondly of the connections she made with her students and her fellow teachers. She loved enriching the minds and spirits of her students. She enjoyed annual family trips across North America in the family’s motorhome with other relatives. Learning and experiencing different cultures was a true pleasure for her. Later in life, she took more extended journeys with her family. Alaska and Hawaii were among her favorites. She relaxed by reading, watching soap operas on daytime television with her daughter, and spending time with family. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority at ISU and remained active with the organization long after graduation. She also was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Martinsville.
Carolyn is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Donald L. Snyder, DDS; beloved children, Claudia Snyder and Brian (Victoria) Snyder; grandson, Gavin Snyder; beloved sisters-in-law, Carolyn Gadberry, Mary Hostetler, and Joan Armstrong; brother-in-law, Jack Percy, and a host of dear nieces, nephews, old friends, and grateful students.
