Obituary of Barbara T. Daum
Barbara Elnora Trester Daum, 100, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2023. She leaves a legacy of community service and patriotism. Barbara Elnore Trester Daum was a woman whose service and energy will continue to inspire others. Barbara was born in Carmel, Indiana, and moved to Boynton Beach, Florida, with her late husband, U.S. Army Col. Lawrence W. Daum, in the summer of 1977. Barbara was the only child of Colonel Neff Trester and Ethel Mable (Jennings) Trester Lamb. She graduated from Carmel High School in 1941. Barbara attended St. Vincent’s School of Nursing and graduated in 1944 as a Registered Nurse with a focus on psychiatric nursing. Barbara also had a passion for art and attended Indiana University’s School of Fine Arts. She used that passion to teach art at numerous locations and various clubs. Barbara was also a member of the Genealogy Societies of Palm Beach County, Fla.; Randolph County, N.C.; and Champagine, Ohio. She was privileged to be a member of the Louis DuBoise Chapter of the Hugenot Society, where she served as Chaplin, Secretary and two terms as President. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She held the positions of pianist, Assistant Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Second Vice Regent, and Regent. During her time as Regent she was given the opportunity to attend the National Conference in Washington, D.C. In addition, Barbara was a Director of the Boynton Beach Concert Association; past President of the Women’s Fellowship of the Church of the Palms; member of the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century; member of the Magna Charta Dames; member of Americans of Royal Descent; member of the Most Royal Order of the Garter; member of the Colonial Order of the Crown (Charlamagne). She was also active in the Republican Women’s Clubs of Delray Beach and Boynton Beach. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Sandra Daum of Zellwood, Fla.; grandchildren Stacy Daum Beard and Andrew Daum, James Gagner and Barbara Gagner; great-grandchildren Amanda Prescott Carranza, Abigail Beard Kidwell, Wm. Maxwell Beard, Sara Beard, Matthew Daum, and Whitney Osborne Marshall, and several great-great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Col. Lawrence W. Daum, daughter Susan Daum Worsham, son William A. Daum and granddaughter Laura Prescott. Graveside services will be Wednesday, January 3 at 2 pm in Union Chapel Cemetery, 8306 Union Chapel Rd., Indianapolis, Indiana, 46240.
