Virginia Mae Morris was born April 24, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Homer and Elsie Childress. She moved to Grantville, Kansas to assist in the care of her grandparents and then moved to Topeka, Kansas until she moved to Florida in 2005.
She attended Grantville Elementary School and graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1944. She had two brothers, Clarence and Charles and a sister, Marylou who all preceded her in death.
Virginia married William (Bill) Morris on July 9, 1949 and divorced in June 1971. She had two children with Bill, Barbara and Scott. She married a second time in 1972, which ended in divorce.
She worked for the Federal Government in the Supply Depot, Winter General, the Department of Agriculture and the Social Security Administration and retired in 1985 after 33 years with the Government.
Virginia was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW and loved creating Buddy Poppy Displays and trees at the Festival of Trees. She wrote articles for the Times Communicator, which was the magazine for the Inner Peace Movement. She also befriended a foreign exchange student from Kenya named Ernest.
She loved entertaining family and friends, and making fancy dishes, summer vacations to Colorado, helping others around the community, her mom, dad, and kids and her pets.
After her move to Florida in 2005, she became involved in ceramics and painting. She was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's, and went to live in Long Term Care at Gulf Coast Village in May 2018. She enjoyed playing bingo, singing, and arts and crafts until she was unable to do so. In December 2021, she had a huge decline health wise but she recovered and was able to celebrate her 96th birthday at Gulf Coast Village. Virginia went to be with the Lord on August 5, 2022.
Virginia's daughter in law, Charleen preceded her in death in November 2019. They are now together in the presence of our Lord. Virginia will be missed but we all know she is in a better place.
