Matthew Edward Clancy, age 34, of South Boston, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022. Matthew was born on June 1, 1987 in Weymouth, Massachusetts.
Beloved son of the late Edward Clancy and beloved grandson of the late Genevieve Clancy, Matthew is survived by his mother Catherine (Keaney) Clancy, his aunt Eileen (Keaney) Murphy, his uncles Kenny Clancy and George Keaney, and his brother Kevin Clancy and sister-in-law Molly (Kwiatkowski) Clancy as well as many devoted friends.
As a child growing up in Weymouth, Matt enjoyed softball, bowling and scouts. He loved skateboarding and playing his guitar—two hobbies he recently rediscovered with much enthusiasm (and a few banged up elbows). After graduating from Weymouth High School, he attended Bethany College in West Virginia. At Bethany, Matt found a brotherhood of friends as a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. After graduating with his bachelor’s degree in psychology, Matt trained to be an EMT and joined Boston EMS. His caring, compassionate nature and passion for the work made him a natural at it. When he spoke of his profession, the true depth of his dedication to it was obvious. For anyone who knew him, loving Matt was easy—he could always light up a room with his smile and sharp wit.
He loved his friends and family who will mourn his passing with a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations in Matt’s honor can be made to the Boston EMS Relief Association.
