Mary Ellen Connelly, 91, of Cape Coral, FL passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014. Born November 8, 1922 to Mary and Francis Walsh in New York City, Mary raised 13 children along with her husband Bill. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Andrews Church since 1967.
Mary and her family were granted the key to Cape Coral after winning a GAC McCall home at the World’s Fair in NY in 1964. The family relocated to Cape Coral in 1967 and has resided here as year round residents since. She has volunteered throughout her life with charities and organizations and was a member of the VFW since 1967.
Simply grand, smiling all the way, strong, beautiful and full of love, Mary is survived by her 11 loving children Margaret Thingelstad, Thomas Morrow, Florence, Pat Amoruso, Robert, Mary Connelly Morrow, Peggy Ann Boulay, Gregory, Edward, Brian and John; 38 cherished grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband William (Bill); 2 sons William (Billy), Jr. and Thomas; brothers and sisters, Ann "Anna" Walsh, Francis "Raymond" Walsh, John "Jackie" Walsh, Frances "Tottie" Walsh and Buddy Walsh, and 2 grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 2nd at Coral Ridge Funeral Home between the hours of 10 – 2pm. The funeral mass will be on Monday, March 3rd at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Cape Coral at 10:30am with burial to follow at Coral Ridge Cemetery.
Mom was like the sun - her children, the planets - we drew strength. Through her warmth, we revolved around her energy. She lit up our faces with her smile. She was the light of our universe - may she forever glow in our hearts.
