James Gerard McCaffrey 92, died peacefully at home in Pine Island, FL on March 28th, 2023. Jimmy was born to John James McCaffrey and Mary Ellen Connington on August 11, 1930. He is predeceased by his wife, Joan Giles McCaffrey and son James Gerard McCaffrey Jr. He is survived by Kathleen Perkins, Kathleen McCaffrey, Patricia Clifford, Michael, Renee McCaffrey, Sean, Shannon McCaffrey, 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He was third generation from Ireland where his grandfather came over here and settled in a Homestead in Teaneck New Jersey. He grew up in Teaneck going to the elementary schools in town and he also attended Teaneck High School and also Holy Trinity High School in Hackensack, New Jersey. Jim served in the Navy in 1949/50 and married Joan on January 21, 1950. He always worked as a carpenter/builder and was self-employed since the early 60s. He was always involved in the towns he lived in and became a volunteer fireman and was a coach for the kids in sports. In the late 60s, he became the building inspector in Emerson, NJ and the Fire Chief in Emerson, NJ.
In 1970, he moved the family to Beach Haven, New Jersey where he ran his own Marina while he continued his love of building homes. And once again, he joined the volunteer fire department.
Jim and Joan settled themselves on Pine Island, Florida in 1997 and made that their permanent home. They were both involved with Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Moose Club. The last few years they were lucky enough to live with their sons family on Pine Island.
