My dear husband of 55 years, Charles Thornton, Jr., is no longer with us. He was born 12-13-1942 in Rochester, NY to his parents, Charles Thornton and Dakota Wheeler Thornton, now deceased. He passed away peacefully on 9-13-2023 at the Hope Hospice House in Cape Coral, Fl. after a short illness. He is survived by wife Heidi, and our children whom he was very proud of; daughter: Tina and Gord and their daughter, Kacee and son, Brian and Eliana and their daughter Jacqueline. He is also survived by sisters Darlene Watkins (Dick), Janice Olsen (Dick), Holly Altieri (Arthur), brother-in-law Ed Frautschi (Connie now deceased), and sister-in-law Edie Taft and her husband Bill, nieces and nephews, and many cousins and friends who called him Dad, Grampy, Uncle Charles, Charles or Chuck.
Charles had many accomplishments. He was a veteran serving in the Army. He attended Culver Naval Summer School, Indiana. After graduating from Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Virginia, he attended and graduated from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He furthered his education with a Master of Arts degree from Central Michigan in 1974. He worked as a Training Professional lastly at LCEC and considered himself a Floridian moving to Cape Coral in 1989. Heidi and Charles enjoyed traveling and have been to many countries in Europe. He loved his motorhomes, and visited many historic sites in the beautiful America. Oftentimes he took his mother who was the best map reader before GPS. Charles had many hobbies that kept him busy in retirement, especially during the pandemic. He was quite proud to be the family historian and worked almost daily on his family tree. He will be missed by many.
