Zura Ann Shields, 85, of Canton, Texas, went home to the Lord on August 28, 2024. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Eubank Funeral Home, Bro. Roy James officiating.
Zura was born on December 17, 1938, in the Garden Valley Community of Smith County, Texas to George Fred White and Mattie Lou Martin White. She graduated from Van High School in 1957. After cosmetology training, she owned and operated Zura’s Beauty Shop in the Oakland Community until the mid-1970s, when she joined the staff at the Grand Saline Sun. She retired in 1999 after a 20-year career as the print shop supervisor at the University of Texas Health Center in Tyler. She was an active member of Oakland United Methodist Church.
She married Jimmy Dowell Shields on December 17, 1955. Throughout their sixty-eight years of marriage, Zura deeply loved her family, who were the center of her life. She loved gatherings with family and friends, playing games, traveling, camping, and reading. One of her greatest joys was watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play in various sporting and other school events. She will be missed by all who love her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Shields; parents, Fred and Mattie Lou White; son, Stephen Shields; grandchildren, Nathan Shields and Anne Graves.
Zura is survived by her brother, Bobby Dan White, Sr.; daughters: Sheryl Graves and husband, Martin; Brenda Gipson and husband, Steve; Sandra Shields; grandchildren: Lyndee Gipson Mosley and husband, Corby; Nikki Gipson Warner and husband, Codi; Sarah Gipson Alberswerth and husband, Chance; Stephenie Shields Anderson and husband, A.J.; Jessie Couch; Ashley Graves; Andrew Graves; C.J. Duncan; great-grandchildren: Alissa Fugate, Madi Fugate, Reagan Mosley, Tripp Mosley, Mason Warner, John Warner, Micah Shields, Myles Shields, Malachi Shields, Sylvia Anderson, Nature Bowman, Karma Bowman, Trinity Godwin, Marley Bowman; and a host of other family and friends.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, September 3, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that you to please make a donation to Oakland United Methodist Church.
Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery near Canton, Texas.
