Lockie Faye Hodges Van Deman passed away peacefully after lying down for a nap on June 1, 2015. She was diagnosed a year ago with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. She fought a brave battle and we are proud of the courage and the perseverance she demonstrated to her family and loved ones.
She was born on September 21, 1943 in Athens, Texas to Benny and LaVera James Hodges both of Murchison, Texas. Lockie spent her childhood growing up with three loving sisters in Murchison, Texas. She worked for many years in the Henderson County community as a beautician and later enjoying a job as a postal worker in Murchison. Lockie was a loyal and longtime member of First Baptist Church in Murchison.
Lockie married Larry Keith Van Deman of Cayuga, Texas on November 28, 1963. Lockie and Larry spent more than 51 years together - loving life, family and community in Murchison, Texas. Lockie was greatly loved by her family and will be missed dearly. The comfort for all who knew her is that she is now fully able to move her body into the loving arms of our Lord.
Lockie is survived by her husband, Larry Van Deman; her daughter, Genea Van Deman of Smithville, Texas; sons and wives Robert Keith and Sheila Van Deman of Frankston, Texas; James Ronald and Debbie Van Deman of Brownsboro, Texas. Her sisters include Mary Kent and Edith Head of Murchison and Linda Bass and husband, Sam, of Ben Wheeler, Texas. Her grandkids include: BJ and Brooke Frachiseur of Whitehouse, Texas; Bobby Brant Van Deman of Portland, Oregon; Dustin Van Deman and fiancé Alie Presnal of Dallas, Texas; Jordan Black of Brownsboro, Texas; Brandon Van Deman of Tyler, Texas; Peyton Van Deman of Frankston, Texas and God-granddaughter Ruthie Rodriguez of Pflugerville, Texas and two beautiful great-grandchildren Jackson and Macie Frachiseur and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Brant, Dustin, Brandon and Peyton Van Deman, Jordan Black, BJ Frachiseur and Cody Burns.
Viewing is 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton, Texas, located at 27532 State Hwy 64.
The funeral will be 10:00 AM Friday, June 5th at First Baptist Church in Murchison, Texas.
All family and friends are encouraged to attend this celebration of love, life and the lasting memory of Lockie Van Deman.
Interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery in Athens, TX.
In lieu of flowers, you may make memorials to First Baptist Church Murchison or the ALS Association.
