Henry Wallace “Wally” Miller was born January 29, 1930 to Alice Marie and Lloyd Ray Miller in Houston, Texas. On October 4, 2024 he passed away at the age of 94 in College Station, Texas surrounded by loved ones.
He spent his childhood in Houston and graduated from Austin High School in 1947. After graduating he attended Texas A&M University and received his mechanical engineering degree from the University of Houston in 1953. He then served our country as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army from 1954-1956.
Post military discharge, he met Julia “Anne” McGown and they were married on March 18,1961. They shared 53 years together in which Wally was a devoted husband to Anne especially in her later years as he could always be found by her side taking care of her. His commitment to Anne was a true loving example of the selfless attitude he often shared with others. Wally and Anne had three children Gregory (Jan), Dana Thompson(Phil), Lane (Jennifer) and seven grandchildren: Reagan and Brooks Miller, Paige and Grant Thompson, Maddie(Lacambra), Ellie, and Leah Miller.
Professionally, Wally had a successful engineering career. After discharge from the Army, he returned to Houston and started his career at McCulloch Tools as a petroleum engineer. He then went on to work for Cameron Iron Works where he began developing sub-sea drilling equipment. He received several patents with Cameron. He completed his career at Mobil Oil where he continued his engineering work, again obtaining several more sub-sea patents with Mobil.
Wally was known for his excellent "42" skills and loved to sit at the table for a game whenever possible and in his later years enjoyed playing at Aggie tailgates. He and Anne also spent many weekends by the bay sharing their love of saltwater fishing. After retirement, Wally and Anne enjoyed cruises and travel with their favorite traveling companions LaRita and Lamar McGown, Anne’s brother and wife.
Wally is preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Alice Marie Miller, his wife Julia Anne, his sister Shirley Foster and his son-in-law Phillip Thompson.
Funeral Services will be held at Holly Springs United Methodist Church, Ben Wheeler,Texas on Wednesday, October 9th at visitation at 12:00 pm, service to follow at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Holly Springs Cemetery,Ben Wheeler, Texas where he will be laid to rest next to his beloved Anne.
