A funeral service will be held for Helen Elsie Howell, 93, of Canton, Texas, at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Eubank Funeral Home, followed by a 1:00 p.m. graveside service at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Frankston, Texas. Bro. Jack Thompson of Midway Church of God will officiate.
Helen went home to the Lord on May 22, 2021, in Tyler, Texas. She was born on March 4, 1928 in Colfax, Texas to Lincoln Hobbs and Ester Large Hobbs and grew up in the Edom and Colfax area. In high school she wrote beautiful poems and songs. In 1946, she met the love of her life, Clifford Howell, and they were married on April 27, 1946. She was a member of Midway Church of God and loved doing the Lord’s work. She was always involved with church activities and was a member of The Gospel Grannies, a sister duet that sang at nursing homes around the county. Helen was active in the Gideon’s with Clifford, even after he passed away. Helen was a “farmer’s wife” and loved caring for her family and the farm right beside Clifford. She had a beautiful flower garden. She enjoyed going on cruises and trips and always had her camera with her. She took tons of pictures to share with family and friends. When Helen traveled, she collected rocks as souvenirs and when asked by others what kind of souvenir they could bring back to her, she would tell them “just pick me up a rock”. Helen treasured every one of them. Helen loved the Lord, her family and life. Helen leaves an empty space in the hearts of those she leaves behind but will see again.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lincoln and Ester Hobbs; husband, Clifford Howell; and several brothers and sisters.
Helen is survived by her children, Gail and Mike DeLong, Steve and Sharon Howell, Greg and Mary Howell, Phyllis and Curtis Clardy; grandchildren: Michael DeLong, Melissa Phillips, Stephanie Silvers, Anna Howell, Mitchell Howell, Jeremy Howell, Shana Trujillo, Nicci Perdue and Taylor Kelley; and 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Lawrence, Goldie Dorsey, Geneva Pickering and brother, Lenord Hobbs; as well as a host of friends.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. If desired, memorials may be made to the Gideon’s in her memory.
