Cathy passed away peacefully at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler on October 3, 2024. She was born December 27, 1950 in Athens to Rev. Lloyd L. Griffin and Ester Ray Anders Griffin. Cathy was the youngest of five siblings.
Cathy retired from Morton Salt Co. in Grand Saline. She had also worked at various sewing facilities. Early in life she was a very good cook and baked delicious pies and cakes. She also liked gardening and raising flowers and tending her yard. She loved animals of all kinds, both indoor and outside pets. She always had a special indoor pet dog that was her constant companion. The best loved of these was Bejun who preceded her in death.
Cathy loved dolls and had a nice collection of dolls. She was an accomplished seamstress and made many things. She enjoyed taking RV trips with her siblings and their spouses for many years. When she moved to the nursing home, her favorite thing to do was to watch Hallmark Movies on TV. Cathy's other favorite things at the nursing home was for us to bring her a Dairy Queen hamburger and chocolate malt. She also loved to have Diet Cokes and some chocolate on hand.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Clois Griffin and Hollis Griffin; and one brother-in-law, Bobby English; two nieces, Kay Griffin Kelleher and Cindy Griffin Clounch.
Cathy is survived by two sisters: Shirley Bailey and husband, Edward, of Grand Saline, Texas, and Gay English of Friendswood, Texas; sister-in-law, Pat Griffin of Forney, Texas; and nephew, Gary Griffin, of Weatherford, who grew up in the home. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation and thanks to Canton Oaks Nursing Home for 5 1/2 years of compassionate care. Many of the workers at Canton Oaks became her friends and family. Also thanks to the Hospice of East Texas for their kind end of life care for Cathy.
