William (Bill) W. Trott, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed in peace Aug. 15, 2019, in Rochester, N.Y.
His 92 years of life were filled with fun times with family and friends and numerous travel adventures to all parts of the world.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Marjorie Miller Trott, a Canton, Ohio, native, who now resides in Rochester, N.Y. Also surviving are his two children, daughters Lynne (Denny) Kolp from North Canton, Ohio, and Joy (David) Irwin from Rochester, N.Y., in addition to four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Bill was born in Alliance, Ohio and graduated from North Canton High School. He joined the U.S. Navy, serving in the Aleutian Islands in support of the Pacific Theater.
He owned and operated Trott’s Bakery and Delicatessen in North Canton, where he became an accomplished baker and cook and served a loyal clientele. He operated the business until it was destroyed by fire in 1966.
He was a skillful leader and entrepreneur and his knack for salesmanship served him well in subsequent positions selling a variety of products.
In 1981, Bill acquired Cleo’s Chocolate Pecan Shoppe in Canton and operated the ice cream stand with Marge until their retirement in 1993. Cleo’s was a favorite stopping place for those in Canton seeking some of area’s best ice cream. He later used his baking skills to add delicious mini-pies and other baked goods to Cleo’s menu, which also became big hits.
When Cleo’s closed for the season, Bill and Marge spent winters in Florida and later permanently retired in Port Orange, where they continued to live a busy life. Bill became active in the Summertrees Homeowners Association and served terms as president and assistant treasurer of the organization.
Bill loved to travel and became very active in Port Orange Recreational Travelers (PORT) ̶ also affectionately known as Port Orange Recycled Teenagers ̶ and eventually served as president. Combined with previous family vacations and his involvement in PORT, he and Marge visited all 50 of the United States and more than 50 other countries or territories.
He owned a beautiful 1952 MG-TD and in his younger years was a member of the Tuscarawas Valley Touring Club, gaining several board positions, including president. The family fondly remembers many Sunday afternoons participating in road rallies or working rally checkpoints.
He also had a flair for the creative and took on ceramics as a hobby, producing a great number of intricate and colorful ceramic pieces. He and Marge also taught ceramics several years while in North Canton.
The family would like to sincerely thank the entire staff and administration of the Fairport Baptist Home and Lifetime Care Hospice for the kind and compassionate care they rendered to Bill during his stay at the home.
A celebration of Bill’s life will take place Sept. 21, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home, 5000 Everhard Road NW, Canton. We invite friends and family to stay and visit after the ceremony.
Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to either or The Ocean Cleanup Project (theoceancleanup.com/donate) or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (stjude.org/give).
