Doris Laverne Sahli

She was born on March 23, 1928, in Alliance, Ohio, to the late Minnie Rudolph Lapp and Henry Lap.Doris was a graduate of the Alliance High School class of January 1946 and was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in North Canton, where her involvement extended to the choir, Sunday School, and church leadership. She was an accomplished pianist, frequently playing for recitals, accompanying choirs and musicians, and participating in the church orchestra. Doris was also an active member of the North Canton YMCA Seniors, the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) chapter AC, Mu Phi Epsilon Alliance Alumni chapter, and TOPS group. Doris was past president of the MacDowell Music Club and the Canton Regional Society of Professional Engineers Auxiliary.

Beyond her musical and church activities, she enjoyed her mixed doubles bowling league, 500 card club, playing bridge, traveling, and photography. Doris also had a keen interest in family genealogy. She served as secretary-treasurer for both the Christian Sahli and Conrad Lapp reunions for many decades.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Warren L. Sahli, her parents, her sister, Ethel Lapp Springer, her brothers, Carl and Richard Lapp, and her son-in-law, John Swihart. She is survived by her loving children: Janet Swihart, Richard (Sophia) Sahli, and Philip (Linda) Sahli; three grandchildren: Christopher, Denise (Cody) Huedepohl, and David; her sister, Elda Tate, and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours for Doris will be held at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home at 5000 Everhard Rd NW, Canton, OH 44718 on Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 6-8 pm and on Friday, August 9, 2024 from 10-11 am. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home on Friday at 11 am with Pastors Eli Klingensmith and Gary Smith officiating. Doris will later be privately laid to rest.
