Oscar Hyman Marks, 96, of Norton and previously of North Easton passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 10, 2024. Oscar was born in Boston on June 17, 1928 to the late Jennie (Kulik) and Max Marks. The loving husband of Frances of 70 years; beloved father of Jeanne Cohen and her husband Robert, Evan Marks and the late Joel Marks; adored grandfather of Joshua and his wife Anne, Stephen and his wife Christine, Jordan, Shawna and her husband Ian, Logan, Travis and David and great grandfather to Camille.
“Ockie”, as he was known by friends and family, was a proud member of the armed forces during WWII where he was an instructor for the blind at Valley Forge General Hospital. He met his sweetheart Fran Stein of Dorchester, where they had an incredibly happy marriage that lasted 70 years. Ockie enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, playing cards with friends and in his later years, kayaking and biking with his children.
If anything, he was the most patient and selfless person. Ockie would go out of his way, agreeable or not, to accommodate his wife, whether it was selling a home he loved or waiting in the car for several hours while Fran shopped. It was never about him, but everyone else. He will be sorely missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton on Friday, November 15 at 10 AM. Interment will immediately follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ockie’s memory are requested to the World War II Veterans Committee at www.americanveteranscenter.org
