Robert Gregory was born January 30, 1929 in Avoca, Pennsylvania. He attended Avoca Elementary School and Moosic High School. He joined the Navy in 1946, and was stationed in Attu, Alaska on the Aleution Islands during WWII. Following the war, he worked at Du Pont in Flint, Michigan until he was recalled for the Korean War in 1950. He was stationed on the USS Delta AR9 until 1954 when he then transferred to the Reserves. He retired from the Navy in 1989, after serving for 28 years.
Mr. Gregory married Velma Shirley Smith from South Carolina. Together, they had two children, the late Kent Gregory and their daughter, Kim Elaine Cardenas.
Gregory was initiated into the Masonic Lodge of Flint, Michigan, Lodge 23, on February 26, 1956. He then became a charter member of Woodland Hills Lodge 811 in 1961, moving on to serve as Worshipful Master in 1971. He ended his earthly journey as a member of the Reseda Lodge.
Gregory was employed with Pacific Bell Telephone and was actively involved with the San Fernando Valley Council of Telephone Pioneers of America, serving as President of the Council in 1982-1983. He devoted many hours working for shelters for battered women, including the Pride House in Van Nuys and Haven Hills in the San Fernando Valley. He dedicated countless hours to working with the deaf and the blind throughout the San Fernando Valley.
Mr. Gregory spent decades assisting the Boy and Girl Scouts for both his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his brother: Martin “Marty” Gregory, his wife: Velma Gregory, his daughter: Kim Elaine Cardenas, his grandchildren: Mary Bandini, Michelle Gregory, and Michael Cardenas, and his great-grandchildren: Aiden, Adrian, and Brantley by Michelle.
